Cybersecurity Problems In Health Care And Its Solutions Amid The COVID-19 Era
Abstract
COVID-19 is challenging the resilience of health care information systems and impeding our ability to meet global aspirations for health and well-being. These come as the result of a slew of cyberattacks against hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and others over the pandemic period (with particularly high-profile attacks targeting agencies like US Department of Health and Human Services to name just one example globally) among WHO members. The purpose of the review was to identify cybersecurity challenges, health-adapted solutions for countering recent increases in cyberattacks (eg,phishing campaigns and ransomware attacks), which have been leveraged by attackers to exploit introduced vulnerabilities into technology components that were meant previously contributed adversely with human resources due new modalities addressed by services during COVID-19 pandemic. We performed a scoping review by searching the two main scientific databases (PubMed and Scopus) using the search formula “(covid OR healthcare) AND cybersecurity. Composition in Bosnia and Herzegovina: articles, reports that do not rely upon other published work by the author as a source; DPR OBS papers (all unpublished); industry white paper documents. Because the goal was to highlight current research on contemporary issues, challenges and solutions, only English language articles published in the past decade (i.e. between 2011-2020) were included. Results: Most health care cybersecurity problems fell into 9 categories, solutions to address these fall under 11 domains which healthcare organizations adopted and recommendations of four areas that high level cyber security capacity has to be strengthened in the Health sector were identified. Among these, the most apparent and significant forms of cyber-attacks that took place during Covid-19 were phishing, ransomware, distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks to disrupt services by overwhelming them with traffic from multiple sources , malware. Conclusions: The identified cyberattacks types on the health sector from this scoping review provides a comprehensive examination of how most impactful methods targeting during the COVID-19, besides exploring challenges in cybersecurity and solutions to enhance it with areas needing further improvement. We gave the health sector a different perspective on how to address cybersecurity challenges during COVID -19 pandemic and also any epidemics or pandemics in future.
